Publications
A search for general regulators of cancer metastasis has yielded
a set of microRNAs for which expression is specifically lost as
human breast cancer cells develop metastatic potential. Here we
show that restoring the expression of these microRNAs in
malignant cells suppresses lung and bone metastasis by human
cancer cells in vivo. Of these microRNAs, miR-126 restoration
reduces overall tumour growth and proliferation, whereas miR-335
inhibits metastatic cell invasion. miR-335 regulates a set of
genes whose collective expression in a large cohort of human
tumours is associated with risk of distal metastasis. miR-335
suppresses metastasis and migration through targeting of the
progenitor cell transcription factor SOX4 and extracellular
matrix component tenascin C. Expression of miR-126 and miR-335
is lost in the majority of primary breast tumours from patients
who relapse, and the loss of expression of either microRNA is
associated with poor distal metastasis-free survival. miR-335
and miR-126 are thus identified as metastasis suppressor
microRNAs in human breast cancer.

The miRBase Sequence Database - a searchable database of
published miRNA sequences and annotation. The data were
previously provided by the miRNA registry. The miRBase Registry
continues to provide gene hunters with unique names for novel
miRNA genes prior to publication of results. The miRBase Targets
database is a new resource of predicted miRNA targets in
animals. The latest release is version 11.0.

Sciences at the University of Lethbridge published the latest in
a series of papers describing characterization of breast cancer
using microRNA expression profiling and epigenomic and proteomic
measurements in rat model.

microRNA profiling enables study of epigenetic mechanisms. Micro
RNAs (miRNAs) are small non-protein-coding RNA molecules that
function as negative regulators of gene expression by base
pairing with specific mRNAs. This either inhibits translation or

regulation of genes involved in the control of development, cell
proliferation, apoptosis, and stress response is well
established, much less is known about their role in
carcinogenesis. Significantly altered miRNA levels were observed

Sample vs Single Sample
Dual Sample vs Single Sample Experiments - Dual Sample - A
dual-sample assay is used when two samples are compared with
each other. The assay does not involve chip-to-chip variations
and therefore may reveal very small differences between the two
samples. The assay is especially suitable when paired samples
are studied, such as diseased tissue being compared with an
adjacent non-diseased tissue. The assay also has an advantage of
lower per-sample cost than single sample assay does. However,
design considerations should be given to minimize dye-related
bias. - Single Sample - A single-sample assay is used when
multiple independent samples are compared with each other. The
assay has the advantage of free of dye-related bias although it
has a higher per-sample cost.

LC Sciences provides a genome-wide microRNA (miRNA) expression
profiling service using �Paraflo� technology and proprietary
probe design, which enable highly sensitive and specific direct
detection of miRNAs. We have standard arrays for mature miRNA of
all species available in the latest version of the Sanger
miRBase database (Release 10.1). Our service is comprehensive
and includes small RNA enrichment from your total RNA sample,
single or dual color labeling, hybridization, image data
processing and data analysis. Two-three weeks after receiving
your total RNA samples, we send you the analyzed data,
representative and original images of the array, and raw data.
We offer additional products and services including arrays
containing miRNA*, walk/tiling arrays, custom arrays (first 100
probes free of charge), and in-depth analysis for multiple data
sets. The optional data analysis may include multi-array
normalization, t-test, ANOVA, False Discovery Rate calculator,
and/or clustering analysis.
