Gene Synthesis

• Gene assembly strategies (overlapping, blunt-end, or staggered oligos) have been known for more than two decades.
• Existing barriers - cost and time required for obtaining oligonucleotides; for instance, for a small genome of 5 Mbp, 250,000 oligonucleotides of 40-mers are required.  The synthesis per se would need 60,000 liters of solvents and cost multi-million dollars.
• PicoArray synthesis and OligoMix^® provide an immediate answer to the problem since it can make tens of thousands of oligos at the cost and the time equivalent to those for making a few conventionally synthesized oligos.
