December 19, 2007 - Sanger miRBase microRNA Sequence Database Updated to Release 10.1The miRBase sequence database1 is a comprehensive database of miRNA sequence data, annotation, and predicted gene targets and is the primary public repository for these data miRBase also provides a gene-naming service for assigning official miRNA names to novel miRNAs before they are published. miRBase provides a convenient, searchable online database, allowing the user to search by key word or sequence for information about known miRNAs and their targets and is freely available to all at http://microrna.sanger.ac.uk/. The Sanger Institute released the latest version (10.1) of their miRBase sequence database for known miRNAs today ( http://microrna.sanger.ac.uk/sequences/) This is the fourth update in 2007 and there have been 23 updates since the initial release in late 2002. Updates occur whenever a significant number of experimentally verified sequences are added to the database. The number of verified microRNAs has been increased from 5071 to 5395 hairpin precursor miRNAs expressing 5234 mature miRNA products. ( miRBase release summary). For the first time, miRNAs are reported from Brassica, Carica papaya, Vitis vinifera, Dictyostelium discoideum, Pygathrix bieti and Symphalangus syndactylus. New miRNAs are reported for Homo sapiens, Anopheles gambiae, Drosophila melanogaster, Caenorhabditis elegans, Xenopus tropicalis, Ateles geoffroyi, Macaca mulatta, Pan troglodytes, Mus musculus, Rattus norvegicus and Brassica napus. This updated probe content is currently available on all of our standard or custom microRNA microarrays. LC Sciences is the only microRNA microarray service that offers miRBase version 10.1 probe content. More information about LC Sciences is available at http://www.lcsciences.com.
